Introducing Montessori Teacher Preparation
of Kansas City

Montessori Teacher Preparation of Kansas City (MTPKC) provides a carefully planned sequence of learning experiences and activities that culminate in a certificate for Montessori director from Montessori Educational Programs, International. The presentation is based on Montessori principles and applies the concepts of individual differences and self-education to the adult learner. Recognition that education is a continuing, evolving phenomenon of life is basic to the training. The great educational philosophy of Maria Montessori is both method and subject matter.

Our Objective: The overall objective is to guide adults as they become dedicated Montessori directors, prepared to give children the “aid to living” which Dr. Maria Montessori believed to be their greatest need.

The Faculty: MTPKC instructors are highly trained, dedicated teachers. All have had extensive classroom experience which has proven to be beneficial in connecting Montessori philosophy to practical application in multi-age environments. Students find our instructors inspiring, encouraging, caring and professional.

The Environment: The training is offered at Clay-Platte Children’s House (CPCH) Montessori School. The school was founded in October 1966 and has been a training site for adults since 1969. CPCH provides Montessori education for children 2 through 15 years of age. The school is located on ten acres of wooded property, complete with a meandering creek, an ideal setting for Montessori education. All classrooms are well equipped, offering a full set of Montessori learning materials appropriate to the age level.

The Early Childhood Program

The early childhood program consists of 250+ hours of instruction and 700+ hours of practicum. It is offered in three phases:

Foundations: Montessori history, philosophy and methodology
Academics: detailed lessons on the Montessori didactic materials, as well as, discussions on themes prevalent to early childhood
Internship: working under the guidance of a certified Montessori director in Montessori classroom.

Fees and Tuition: There is a $100.00 registration fee due at the time of enrollment. Tuition is $2,800.00. Tuition can be paid in full or in monthly installments. A certification fee of $175 is required at time of certification.

Application: The course begins in September of each year. A personal interview with a MTPKC instructor is required. At that time, a complete packet of information will be available.
