Maria Montessori found
that from the moment of birth a child has an innate
craving to learn. The preprimary program is the
child's first introduction to Montessori and for
many, the first experience away from the home
environment. The focus is on basic socialization
skills. Children learn grace and courtesy, getting
along with others and how to express feelings in a
nurturing and caring environment.

Primary
Ages 3 - 6 years
 |
The primary classroom offers a program that allows
for intellectual, social, emotional and physical
development. Montessori primary builds upon the
child's knowledge of the present while establishing
the foundation for later abstract learning. The
primary classroom, through freedom of choice and
freedom of movement, allows the child to work
independently and explore the environment while
building concentration and self-discipline. |

Elementary
Ages 6 - 9 years
 |
The elementary curriculum builds upon the foundation
established in the primary program. At this age,
children go through a transformation in wanting to
acquire information. They want to know everything
about everything. Questions are encouraged,
providing connections to all subjects which, in
turn, lead to inner motivation and a personal quest
for discovery. Hands-on materials are used to
introduce concepts, engaging the child and assisting
in the understanding of concepts. In the elementary
years, the child comes first, not the curriculum. |

Junior
Ages 9 - 12 years
 |
At this age, the
imagination is expanding and increasing.
Manipulative materials continue to be used as the
children approach abstract learning. Concepts
developed during the junior years are applied in a
whole or all-encompassing manner. Maria Montessori
described this as cosmic education. |

Middle School
Ages 12-15 years

|
In the middle school
program, there is a thematic approach to learning
evolving out of everything that has been done to
this point. Abstract concepts such as the qualities
and virtues of life are introduced. The children
become involved in hands-on activities that expand
to practical application outside of the classroom.
Land-based learning (study of the environment) is a
large part of the curriculum.

| Summer Program |
Preprimary / Primary
CPCH Montessori School offers a summer program. At the preprimary and primary level, the children continue to have access to the Montessori material while enjoying two-week themes that are integrated into the curriculum. Children are exposed to numerous subjects through "in house" field trips. Days are relaxed and advantage is taken of good weather. The outdoor environment is explored through planting, gardening and walks to the creek. |
Elementary
The elementary summer program is thematic and offers a variety of subjects from exploring cultures to architecture to health and fitness. The outdoor environment is utilized daily as weather permits. The elementary children take field trips to community programs and events. There are also weekly swimming and skating experiences. |
