Environmental Awareness
Clay-Platte Montessori School encourages awareness of our environment. One way to help with environmental issues of the future is to plant the seeds of respect and responsibility at a very early age. The task of providing a sense of caring for all living things needs to be instilled from the very beginning of life.
Montessori education offers a strong environmental curriculum. At a very young age, children are introduced to botany, zoology and physical science through a variety of Montessori materials and activities. The Montessori curriculum continues to provide in-depth studies in the sciences through the elementary and middle school years. Studies include all the animal and plant kingdoms and their functions in our diverse environment.
We are fortunate to have ten acres of wooded property complete with a meandering creek. Students go outside daily and interact with nature through gardening and other activities. Taking walks to discover local plant and animal life is always enjoyable, and creek visits are a favorite of all ages.
An awareness of our environment is also enhanced through
- Recycling
- Literature
- Music
- Art
- Planting and harvesting vegetables and herbs
- Composting
- In-house field trips with Missouri conservation and other environmentally conscious groups and organizations
- Field trips for older students
